How to Destroy America

Thursday, January 30th, 2014

We know Dick Lamm as the former Governor of Colorado. In that context his thoughts are particularly poignant. Last week there was an immigration overpopulation conference in Washington,DC , filled to capacity by many of America’s finest minds and leaders. A brilliant college professor by the name of Victor Hansen Davis talked about his latest book, “Mexifornia”, explaining how immigration – both legal and illegal was destroying the entire state of California. He said it would march across the country until it destroyed all vestiges of The American Dream.

Moments later, former Colorado Governor Richard D. Lamm stood up and gave a stunning speech on how to destroy America.

The audience sat spellbound as he described eight methods for the destruction of the United States. He said, “If you believe that America is too smug, too self-satisfied, too rich, then let’s destroy America. It is not that hard to do. No nation in history has survived the ravages of time. Arnold Toynbee observed that all great civilizations rise and fall and that ‘An autopsy of history would show that all great nations commit suicide.’”

“Here is how they do it,” Lamm said.

“First, to destroy America, turn America into a bilingual or multi-lingual and bicultural country. History shows that no nation can survive the tension, conflict, and antagonism of two or more competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; however, it is a curse for a society to be bilingual. The historical scholar, Seymour Lipset, put it this way: ‘The histories of bilingual and bicultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension, and tragedy.’ Canada, Belgium, Malaysia, and Lebanon all face crises of national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence. Pakistan and Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnic rebellion. France faces difficulties with Basques, Bretons, Corsicans and Muslims.”

Lamm went on:

“Second, to destroy America , invent ‘multiculturalism’ and encourage immigrants to maintain their culture. Make it an article of belief that all cultures are equal; that there are no cultural differences. Make it an article of faith that the Black and Hispanic dropout rates are due solely to prejudice and discrimination by the majority. Every other explanation is out of bounds.”

“Third, we could make the United States an ‘Hispanic Quebec’ without much effort. The key is to celebrate diversity rather than unity. As Benjamin Schwarz said in the Atlantic Monthly recently: ‘The apparent success of our own multi-ethnic and multicultural experiment might have been achieved not by tolerance but by hegemony. Without the dominance that once dictated ethnocentrcity and what it meant to be an American, we are left with only tolerance and pluralism to hold us together.’ Lamm said, “I would encourage all immigrants to keep their own language and culture. I would replace the melting pot metaphor with the salad bowl metaphor. It is important to ensure that we have various cultural subgroups living in America enforcing their differences rather than as Americans, emphasizing their similarities.”

“Fourth, I would make our fastest growing demographic group the least educated. I would add a second underclass, unassimilated, undereducated, and antagonistic to our population. I would have this second underclass have a 50% dropout rate from high school.”

“My fifth point for destroying America would be to get big foundations and business to give these efforts lots of money. I would invest in ethnic identity, and I would establish the cult of ‘Victimology.’ I would get all minorities to think that their lack of success was the fault of the majority. I would start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure on the majority placation.”

“My sixth plan for America’s downfall would include dual citizenship, and promote divided loyalties. I would celebrate diversity over unity. I would stress differences rather than similarities. Diverse people worldwide are mostly engaged in hating each other – that is, when they are not killing each other. A diverse, peaceful, or stable society is against most historical precedent. People undervalue the unity it takes to keep a nation together. Look at the ancient Greeks. The Greeks believed that they belonged to the same race; they possessed a common language and literature; and they worshipped the same gods. All Greece took part in the Olympic games. A common enemy, Persia, threatened their liberty. Yet all these bonds were not strong enough to overcome two factors: local patriotism and geographical conditions that nurtured political divisions. Greece fell. “E. Pluribus Unum” — From many, one. In that historical reality, if we put the emphasis on the ‘pluribus’ instead of the ‘Unum,’ we will ” Balkanize ” America as surely as Kosovo.”

“Next to last, I would place all subjects off limits. Make it taboo to talk about anything against the cult of ‘diversity.’ I would find a word similar to ‘heretic’ in the 16th century – that stopped discussion and paralyzed thinking. Words like ‘racist’ or ‘xenophobe’ halt discussion and debate. Having made America a bilingual/bicultural country, having established multi-culturalism, having the large foundations fund the doctrine of ‘Victimology,’ I would next make it impossible to enforce our immigration laws. I would develop a mantra: That because immigration has been good for America, it must always be good. I would make every individual immigrant symmetric and ignore the cumulative impact of millions of them.”

In the last minute of his speech, Governor Lamm wiped his brow. Profound silence followed. Finally he said, “Lastly, I would censor Victor Hanson Davis’s book ‘Mexifornia.’ His book is dangerous. It exposes the plan to destroy America. If you feel America deserves to be destroyed, don’t read that book.”

There was no applause. A chilling fear quietly rose like an ominous cloud above every attendee at the conference. Every American in that room knew that everything Lamm enumerated was proceeding methodically, quietly, darkly, yet pervasively across the United States today. Discussion is being suppressed. Over 100 languages are ripping the foundation of our educational system and national cohesiveness. Even barbaric cultures that practice female genital mutilation are growing as we celebrate ‘diversity.’ American jobs are vanishing into the Third World as corporations create a Third World in America. Take note of California and other states. To date, ten million illegal aliens and growing fast. It is reminiscent of George Orwell’s book “1984.” In that story, three slogans are engraved in the Ministry of Truth building: “War is peace,” “Freedom is slavery,” and “Ignorance is strength.”

Governor Lamm walked back to his seat. It dawned on everyone at the conference that our nation and the future of this great democracy is deeply in trouble and worsening fast. If we don’t get this immigration monster stopped within three years, it will rage like a California wildfire and destroy everything in its path, especially The American Dream.

If you care for and love our country as I do, take the time to share this message …  NOTHING is going to happen if you don’t!

“If we ever forget that we’re one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under” – Ronald Reagan

Dear Mr. President …

Tuesday, July 30th, 2013

Dear President Obama:

I’m planning to move my family and extended family into Mexico for my health, and I would like to ask you to assist me. We’re planning to simply walk across the border from the U.S. into Mexico, and we’ll need your help to make a few arrangements.

We plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration quotas and laws. I’m sure they handle those things the same way you do here. So, would you mind telling your buddy, Mexican President Nieto that I’m on my way over? Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:

1. Free medical care for my entire family.

2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not.

3. Please print all Mexican Government forms in English.

4. I want my grandkids to be taught Spanish by English-speaking (bi-lingual) teachers.

5. Tell their schools they need to include classes on American culture and history.

6. I want my grandkids to see the American flag on one of the flag poles at their school.

7. Please plan to feed my grandkids at school for both breakfast and lunch.

8. I will need a local Mexican driver’s license so I can get easy access to government services.

9. I do plan to get a car and drive in Mexico, but I don’t plan to purchase car insurance, and I probably won’t make any special effort to learn local traffic laws.

10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo from their president to leave me alone, please be sure that every patrol car has at least one English-speaking officer.

11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my housetop, put U.S. flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.

12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes, or have any labor or tax laws enforced on any business I may start.

13. Please have the president tell all the Mexican people to be extremely nice and never say critical things about me or my family, or about the strain we might place on their economy.

14. I want to receive free food stamps.

15. Naturally, I’ll expect free rent subsidies.

16. I’ll need income tax credits so that although I don’t pay Mexican taxes, I’ll receive money from the government.

17. Please arrange it so that the Mexican Government pays $4,500.00 to help me buy a new car.

18. Oh yes, I almost forgot, please enroll me free into the Mexican Social Security program so that I’ll get a monthly income in retirement. I know this is an easy request because you already do all these things for all his people who walk over to the U.S. from Mexico . I am sure that the President of Mexico won’t mind returning the favor if you ask him nicely.

P.S.

Doesn’t this look CRAZY when you put it in writing??!!!

Border Patrol Still Hamstrung

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

This from a rancher in in Apache Arizona, just 20 mles north of the Mexican border:

On Wednesday August 4th I met with Supervisory Border Patrol Agent, Mark Monin. He had contacted me a few days earlier to discuss the possibility of using a high hill about a quarter of a mile south of Highway 80 at mile marker 400 to establish a camp for several National Guardsmen. They wanted to establish an observation post complete with modern optics and night vision capabilities. The purpose of this post would be to aid Border Patrol agents in spotting and identifying illegal alien groups. The hill referred to is on deeded land so Agent Monin needed my approval to proceed with the plan. My first response was to question his choice of this certain hill, it being quite high and steep, 4 or 5 hundred feet above the valley floor and having no established trail or road ascending to the summit. His response was that those obstacles could perhaps be overcome. I suggested a smaller hill on the opposite side of the highway with a road to the top and easily accessed. This seemed fine at the time and we agreed to proceed.

It seemed odd to me that the much talked about Guard was to be deployed 22 miles north of the border so I told Agent Monin that I had thought the guard was going to be sent right to the border itself. His response was that no suitable spot had been found to that point. They had looked at a hill on a ranch very near the border with a view extended 10 miles both east and west, but had decided against it because the (the Border Patrol, and National Guard) thought it would be too time consuming to get up and down it and it was a long way from town.

Actually it is closer to town than either of the hills he was interested in on my place, and it had a road and trail already established going up to the top. I didn’t get it. Picking a hill 22 miles north of the border with no access and limited view after passing up the chance to establish a lookout right on the border? The rancher who controls the hill right on the border (we’ll call this Hill #1) pleaded with the Border Patrol to establish this new lookout there. The rancher has witnessed countless dope loads and outlaws cross the line within shouting distance of Hill #1 and was quite dismayed when they chose to go elsewhere. Hill # 1 is about 21 miles straight south of Hill #2 (the hill first mentioned at mile marker 400 on Highway 80). Several days after my meeting with Agent Monin, a Ford F-150 pick-up with over 1000 pounds of Marijuana was found at the Fairchild Ranch. The pick-up had Sonoran plates and so overloaded with dope that both rear tires had blown out. The driver escaped. The Fairchild Ranch where the pick-up was found is exactly half way between Hill #1 and Hill #2. Because of the lay of the land this truck could have never gotten north of Hill #1 undetected had there been an observation post established there. Actually in the first week of August there have been 3 drive-through loads of Marijuana pass through this same area, all easily detected from Hill #1. This isn’t counting the numerous loads going through that area on the backs of human mules.

To me the significance of this is profound. Why would the Border Patrol and our National Guard pass up an opportunity to establish a look out in an excellent spot right on the border, only to choose a spot of lesser quality 22 miles north of the border? Is this mere coincidence? In my opinion, NO, It is planned and deliberate incompetence.

On August 5th the Washington Times printed an article written by Kerry Picket. It states that 7000 ICE employees have cast a unanimous vote of no confidence in the director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), John Morton, and the assistant director of the ICE office Detention Policy and Planning, Phyllis Coven. The Times article mentioned a letter posted by the Center for Immigration Studies and authored by ICE Union President, Chris Crane. Quoting the article, “According to CIS, the letter provides a litany of examples of how ICE’s mission is being skewed toward supporting an unflinching goal of amnesty by refusing to allow agents to do their job, allowing criminal aliens to roam free, depleting resources for key enforcement initiatives that preceded this administration, misrepresenting facts and programs, demeaning the extent of the criminal alien problem, and geared to support amnesty”.

When I read the Times article, it really hit home because I’ve been seeing and hearing these thing for years. I’ve had no less than a dozen Border Patrol agents tell me there superiors purposefully do things to make them unsuccessful. I mentioned this one time to Congresswoman Gabriell Giffords and Border Patrol Tucson Sector Chief, Robert Gilbert, and I thought they were going to have me arrested. After the meeting where this happened, I had an out-of-uniform Border Patrol Agent hug me and thank me profusely for speaking the truth.

This deliberate incompetence (I’m sorry, but putting a National Guard lookout post 22 miles north of the border, when there is a much better spot right on the border is incompetence) that we’re seeing here on the frontier isn’t the fault of agents like Mark Monin, or even the station or sector chiefs. This is a deliberate method of operation that comes straight from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. The border patrol and ICE agents and the Guard are mere pawns in a grander scheme that is being directed by a President who has repeatedly shown that he is the biggest open border advocate alive. Barack Hussein Obama does not consider himself to be a citizen of the USA. He is a citizen of the world. His actions and much that he has said and written make you think America to him is like a disabled halfwit brother that he is ashamed of. Certainly traditional taxpaying Americans are something to be suspect. Since Rob Frantz’s murder on March 27, 2010, neither Barack Obama nor anyone in his administration has ever contacted the Krentz family to make any kind of a statement, even though Rob’s murder has been and still is one of the biggest news stories of the year! The minute Jan Brewer signed SB 1070 into law, Obama and his entire cabinet lit up like slot machines making hay over a law that a majority of Americans support.

The petty fracas between professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. and Sgt. James Crowley instigated the much televised beer bust that was no more than another photo op for Barack Obama,  but no mention from Obama of the deliberate disenfranchisement of ranchers who have the misfortune of living south of Interstate 10.

Obama and his Attorney General, Eric Holder, laud the imagined inequity of holding radical Islamic terrorists at Gitmo but refuse to make a statement condemning Samir Shabaz standing outside a polling place with a club in his hand intimating voters.

One can’t help but compare the current administration with King George III and the American colonies in the mid 1700s. Good King George miscalculated the mood and capacity of the Americans for reprisal and revenge. But perhaps I’m wrong. Maybe Obama knows what trouble lays ahead for him come election time. That’s why he wants all these Mexican outlaws to make it north to freedom and amnesty. Good ole Barack can get his buddy Samir Shabaz to protect all these illegal outlaws (who tramp through my neighborhood) while they go inside and cast a vote for the Democratic ticket.

While all this nonsense is going on the poor people on both sides of the border continue to suffer because of the current administration’s perpetuation of a bogus border policy that is doomed to fail. Hypocrites like Barack Obama, Janet Napolitano and Raul Grijalva cry about the poor Mexican people when the trail they are leading us down enables the Cartels to get rich and abuse the poor and innocent. And cowboys like myself get blamed for it.

MEXICO IS ANGRY!

Three cheers for Arizona

The shoe is on the other foot and the Mexicans from the State of Sonora, Mexico don’t like it. Can you believe the nerve of these people? It’s almost funny. The State of Sonora is angry at the influx of Mexicans into Mexico . Nine state legislators from the Mexican State of Sonora traveled to Tucson to complain about Arizona’s new employer crackdown on illegals from Mexico .

It seems that many Mexican illegals are returning to their hometowns and the officials in the Sonora state government are ticked off.

A delegation of nine state legislators from Sonora was in Tucson on Tuesday to state that Arizona’s new Employer Sanctions Law will have a devastating effect on the Mexican state.

At a news conference, the legislators said that Sonora, – Arizona’s southern neighbor, – made up of mostly small towns, – cannot handle the demand for housing, jobs and schools that it will face as Mexican workers return to their hometowns from the USA without jobs or money.

The Arizona law, which took effect Jan. 1, punishes Arizona employers who knowingly hire individuals without valid legal documents to work in the United States. Penalties include suspension of, or loss of, their business license. The Mexican legislators are angry because their own citizens are returning to their hometowns, placing a burden on THEIR state government. ‘How can Arizona pass a law like this?’ asked Mexican Rep Leticia Amparano-Gamez, who represents Nogales, ‘There is not one person living in Sonora who does not have a friend or relative working in Arizona ,’ she said, speaking in Spanish. ‘Mexico is not prepared for this, for the tremendous problems it will face as more and more Mexicans working in Arizona and who were sending money to their families return to their home-towns in Sonora without jobs,’ she said. ‘We are one family, socially and economically,’ she said of the people of Sonora and Arizona .

Wrong!

The United States is a sovereign nation, not a subsidiary of Mexico , and its taxpayers are not responsible for the welfare of Mexico’s citizens.

It’s time for the Mexican government, and its citizens, to stop feeding parasitically off the United States and to start taking care of its/their own needs.

Too bad that other states within the USA don’t pass a law just like that passed by Arizona. Maybe that’s the answer, since our own Congress will do nothing!

Can Muslims be good Americans?

Monday, January 11th, 2010

This may go far in answering questions as to why our American Muslims remain so silent and refuse to speak out against acts of terror …

So, the question: Can Muslims be good Americans?

Theologically – no. . . . Because his allegiance is to Allah, The moon God of Arabia.

Religiously – no.. . . Because no other religion is accepted by His Allah Except Islam (Quran, 2:256)

Scripturally – no. . . Because his allegiance is to the five Pillars of Islam and the Quran.

Geographically – no . Because his allegiance is to Mecca , to which he Turns in prayer five times a day.

Socially – no. . . Because his allegiance to Islam forbids him to make Friends with Christians or Jews.

Politically – no.. . . Because he must submit to the mullahs (spiritual Leaders), who teach annihilation of Israel and destruction of America , The great Satan.

Domestically – no. .. . Because he is instructed to marry four Women and Beat and scourge his wife when she disobeys him (Quran 4:34 )

Intellectually – no. . Because he cannot accept the American Constitution since it is based on Biblical principles and he believes the
Bible to be corrupt.

Philosophically – no. . . . Because Islam, Muhammad, and the Quran does Not allow freedom of religion and expression. Democracy and Islam cannot Co-exist. Every Muslim government is either dictatorial or autocratic.

Spiritually – no… . . Because when we declare one nation under God, the Christian’s God is loving and kind, while Allah is NEVER referred to as a heavenly father, nor is he ever called love in the Quran’s 99 Excellent names.

Therefore, after much study and deliberation…. Perhaps we should be Very suspicious of ALL MUSLIMS in this country. – – – They obviously cannot be both good Muslims and good Americans.  Call it what you wish, it’s still the truth. You had better believe it.. The more we understand this, the better prepared we will be to face our nation’s challenges.

The religious war is bigger than we know or understand …. The Muslims have said they will destroy us from within. We see it happening before our very eyes today!

The anchor baby tab – The future of our nation?

L.A.County’s $48 Million Monthly Anchor Baby Tab

Taxpayers in the nation¹s most populous county dished out nearly $50
million in a single month to cover only the welfare costs of illegal
immigrants, representing a whopping $10 million increase over the same
one-month period two years ago.

In June 2009 alone Los Angeles County spent $48 million ($26 million in
food stamps and $22 million in welfare) to provide just two of numerous
free public services to the children of illegal aliens, which will
translate into an annual tab of nearly $600 million for the
cash-strapped county.

The figure doesn¹t even include the exorbitant cost of educating,
medically treating or incarcerating illegal aliens in the sprawling
county of about 10 million residents. Los Angeles County annually spends
more than $1 billion for those combined services, including $400 million
for healthcare and $350 million for public safety.

The recent single-month welfare figure was obtained from the county¹s
Department of Social Services and made public by a county supervisor
(Michael Antonovich) who assures illegal immigration continues to have a
³catastrophic impact on Los Angeles County taxpayers.² The veteran
lawmaker points out that 24% of the county¹s total allotment of welfare
and food stamp benefits goes directly to the children of illegal
aliens.
A former fifth-grade history teacher who has served on the county¹s
board for nearly three decades, Antonovich has repeatedly come under
fire for publicizing statistics that confirm the devastation illegal
immigration has had on the region. Antonovich represents a portion of
the county that is roughly twice the size of Rhode Island and has about
2 million residents.

Numerous other reports have documented the enormous cost of illegal
immigration on a national level. Just last year a renowned economist,
who has thoroughly researched the impact of illegal immigration,
published a book breaking down the country¹s $346 billion annual cost to
educate, jail, medically treat and incarcerate illegal aliens throughout
the U.S.

Press 1 for English

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

When calling my bank, a car dealership or placing an order by phone, I have tried to show (at least a little) tolerance for the Interactive Voice Response systems that ask you to press 1 for English. The fact that an American corporation finds it necessary to offer their American residents an option to proceed in another language annoys me, but so long as the system allows me to proceed by default, without my having to press 1 for English, I do not complain. At least not much. I draw the line however, when REQUIRED to press 1 for English. And such was the case yesterday.

I contacted my cell phone provider to discuss upgrading the four phones on my commercial account. I called the Nextel main number and was greeted by the obligatory IVR system. The voice system offered two choices. Press 1 for English or 5 for Spanish. I did nothing and was disconnected about a minute later.  I called back two additional times just to satisfy myself that the system was indeed programmed to disconnect if neither option was chosen.  I personally do not care if American corporations offer options and/or services in French, Swahili, German, Mandarin Chinese or Latin. I do object to being REQUIRED to press 1 to proceed in English in America!!

On my fourth attempt to contact Nextel, I gritted my teeth and pressed 1 for English. I endured the myriad options and menus and eventually reached an actual live person. Once connected to a very polite customer service representative, calmly voiced my extreme displeasure with regard to Nextel’s “press 1 for English” policy. The customer service rep on the other end of the line was very well trained and extremely professional. Yet he could only address my complaint with the stock response that they are catering to a “multi-cultural” audience.

At the conclusion of the conversation, the customer service representative asked the industry standard obligatory question “Have I resolved your issue today?’.  I responded that he certainly had not. After a few more questions, he determined that I was not displeased with him personally and only then agreed to transfer me to a supervisor. I was then connected to senior supervisor Danielle who gave me the same spiel. Again, well trained, but only provided the standard PC response “We are catering to a multi-cultural base”.

I could only hope and pray that my concerns will be escalated up the proverbial chain, but realistically, why would they? I am but one voice among many who care not. Who will stand with me? Stand with me against this storm of political correctness that is threatening the core values of our nation? Or am I just another proud but intolerant, misdirected, God fearing American now representing a mere fraction of the U.S. population?

A footnote:

estimate that I have paid Nextel a whopping $38,000 over these past years for their cell service, to say nothing of all the equipment purchases that I have made. I will be scrutinizing the other cell phone providers serving my area before deciding upon whom to choose as my new cell phone companyThe first qualifying criterion? Require me to press 1 for English and you are scratched off the list. Period.

Another New York invasion — Send the homeless to Florida?

Another New York invasion — homeless heading to Florida?
Doesn’t Florida have enough New Yorkers already?

plane.jpg
Well, brace yourselves.  Floridians can expect an influx of homeless people from the Big Apple.

New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg defended a city program to send homeless families out of New York on planes, trains and buses today, saying it “saves the taxpayers of New York City an enormous amount of money.”

And wouldn’t you know it?

The most popular destinations are Florida, Puerto Rico, Georgia and the Carolinas.

Well, yeah, it’s warm in Florida, ya know.

The mayor complained that it cost the city about $36,000 a year to provide shelter for a homeless family. The average stay in a shelter is about nine months, reports the New York Times.

But shipping folks out. That’s a bargain.

‘“The average cost is trivial,” Bloomberg said. “Most go by bus. Very few go overseas, very few go long distances. Bus is the normal ways we pay for transportation, rather than air.”

But shouldn’t Floridians have a say in all this?

Ship ’em or keep ’em? Should Florida start sending the Cubans and Haitians to New York in retaliation?

What do you think?

Obama to Host White House Amnesty Summit

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

On June 8, President Barack Obama will meet with Congressional leaders to discuss immigration reform legislation.  (Politico, May 20, 2009).  In the past, President Obama has supported “comprehensive immigration reform,” which has included amnesty for the more than 12 million illegal aliens who are living in the United States.  (Luuliyo Online, May 20, 2009).

During a meeting with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus this past May, President Obama promised to hold a forum on immigration reform.  (WSJ Washington Wire, March 18, 2009).  As FAIR previously reported, “according to senior administration officials, Obama will speak publicly about the immigration issue in May.”  (FAIR’s Legislative Update, April 13, 2009).  Despite President Obama’s statement that “transparency promotes accountability and provides information for citizens about what their Government is doing,” and his promise to run a more transparent government, the immigration meeting will not be public.  (Obama Transparency Memorandum).   Instead, it will be held behind closed doors, outside of the view of the American public which has strongly opposed amnesty in the past.  This initial closed-door meeting in June appears to be in lieu of a public forum on the immigration issue.

The meeting will take place at the White House and will include “a small bipartisan group of lawmakers from the House and Senate, including party leaders and people who have worked on immigration issues.”  (Luuliyo).  Among the lawmakers invited to the meeting are two Democratic Members of the House of Representatives from California: Zoe Lofgren of San Jose, who chairs the House Immigration Subcommittee, and Xavier Becerra of Los Angeles, who is regarded as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s point person on immigration matters.  (KPCC Radio, May 21, 2009).  Both Lofgren and Becerra are outspoken supporters of amnesty. (See FAIR’s Congressional Voting Report for the 110th Congress).

The White House meeting comes at a time when nearly 14 million American workers are out of a job and desperately looking for work. (Luuliyo).  The last time that Congress considered amnesty, in June 2007, unemployment stood at 4.6 percent and 7 million Americans were out of work.  However, today’s unemployment rate stands at 8.9 percent, and 13.7 million Americans are out of work.  (See FAIR’s Amnesty & Joblessness Report, May 2009).  Amnesty would allow the estimated 8.3 million illegal aliens who are in the workforce to keep the jobs they never should have had, instead of freeing those jobs up for the American workers who need them.  In addition, amnesty would give those 8.3 million illegal aliens the ability to begin openly competing for other jobs, in a time when America’s labor market is already demonstrating a lack of available jobs.

Justice Dept. Investigates Arizona Sheriff for Enforcing Immigration Law

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, left, orders approximately 200 convicted illegal immigrants handcuffed together and moved into a separate area of Tent City, inmates behind Arpaio, for incarceration until their sentences are served and they are deported to their home countries Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, in Phoenix.

(CNSNews.com) – The Department of Justice (DOJ) has launched an investigation of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in Arizona following requests by congressional Democrats and allegations by liberal activists that the department has violated the civil rights of illegal aliens.

Reps. John Conyers (D-Mich.), Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), and Robert Scott (D-Va.) requested the investigation, and activists groups such as National Day Laborer Organizer Network and ACORN launched petition drives and rallies in support of the probe.

The investigation focuses on Sheriff Joe Arpaio and dozens of officers under his command who were trained through the Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Agreements of Cooperation in Communities to Enhance Safety and Security (ACCESS), which partners federal and local law enforcement to enforce immigration laws. (The Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement division is known popularly as ICE.)

In a letter dated March 10, 2009, Loretta Smith, acting assistant attorney general at the DOJ, detailed what her department would be investigating:

“This is to inform you that the United States Department of Justice is commencing an investigation of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (”MCSO”) pursuant to the pattern or practice provisions of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994,42 U.S.C. §14141 (“Section 14141”) and the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968,42 U.S.C. § 3789d (“Safe Streets Act”), and pursuant to the prohibitions against national origin discrimination in Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964,42 U.S.C. §§ 2000d to 2000d-7 (“Title Yr’) and the Safe Streets Act, 42 U.S.C. § 3789d(c).”

The letter continues:  “The investigation will focus on alleged patterns or practices of discriminatory police practices and unconstitutional searches and seizures conducted by the MCSO, and on allegations of national origin discrimination, including failure to provide meaningful access to MCSO services for limited English proficient (LEP) individuals.”

“In conducting the investigation, we will seek to determine whether there are violations of the above laws by the MCSO,” the letter says.

Sheriff Arpaio’s efforts to enforce immigration laws have been the focus of previous criticism, but Arpaio has defended his department and the results his ICE-trained officers have netted.

Concerning the DOJ’s investigation, Arpaio told CNSNews.com:  “I will not back down. What I am doing is upholding the laws of the state of Arizona, and I will not be persuaded to turn my back on my oath of office as sheriff of this county.”

In an August 2008 press release, Arpaio’s office detailed those results.

“While the Sheriff’s illegal immigration and human smuggling operations conducted on the streets and roadways here have netted nearly 2,300 arrests, another very successful effort to locate illegal aliens has been quietly happening inside Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s jails,” the release said.

It continues: “Despite the growing criticism of the Sheriff’s illegal immigration fight by some valley politicians and activists, Sheriff Arpaio says 60 detention officers trained by ICE officials have conducted over 106,000 interviews and investigations of inmates booked into jail since April of 2007.

“In those 18 months, 16,000 inmates were determined to be illegal aliens. Either they have already been deported or will be deported after being tried and/or serving their sentences for crimes committed in the valley. The work being done be Arpaio’s detention staff is a likely contributor to the recent reduction in crime in the valley,” the press release added.

“That number of 16,000 represents a full one-third (1/3) of all inmates in the United States who have had holds placed on them after being identified by jail or prison officials as illegal aliens.”

The press release goes on to say that 20 percent of inmates in the Maricopa County Jail are illegal aliens and that of those, 2,000 illegal aliens – 70 percent – were arrested for felony crimes.

Those felony crimes committed included the following: forgery, 12 percent; kidnapping, 10 percent; aggravated assault, 7 percent; driving under the influence, 7 percent; drug charges, 27 percent; robbery, 3 percent; murder, 3 percent; and theft, 4 percent.

The Democratic Congress members have also asked Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to launch an investigation into the training provided by ICE.
