T’was The Month Before Christmas

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

Twas the month before Christmas
When all through our land,
Not a Christian was praying
Nor taking a stand.

See the PC Police had taken away
The reason for Christmas – no one could say.

The children were told by their schools not to sing
About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.
It might hurt people’s feelings, the teachers would say
December 25th is just a ‘ Holiday ‘.

Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit
Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!
CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-Pod
Something was changing, something quite odd!

Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa
In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.
As Targets were hanging their trees upside down
At Lowe’s the word Christmas – was nowhere to be found.

At K-Mart and Staples and Penny’s and Sears
You won’t hear the word Christmas;
it won’t touch your ears.

Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty
Are words that were used to intimidate me.

Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen
On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton !
At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter
To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.

And we spoke not a word,
as they took away our faith
Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace

The true Gift of Christmas
was exchanged and discarded
The reason for the season,
stopped before it started.

So as you celebrate ‘Winter Break’ under your ‘Dream Tree’
Sipping your Starbucks, please listen to me.
Choose your words carefully,
choose what you say
Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS ,
not Happy Holiday !

Please, all Christians join together and wish everyone you meet MERRY CHRISTMAS !! Christ is The Reason’ for the Christ-mas Season!

Christian Rout in the Culture War

Tuesday, December 21, 2010

By Patrick J. Buchanan

A Democratic Congress, discharged by the voters on Nov. 2, has as one of its last official acts, imposed its San Francisco values on the armed forces of the United States.

“Don’t ask, don’t tell” is to be repealed. Open homosexuals are to be welcomed with open arms in all branches of the armed services.

Let us hope this works out better for the Marine Corps than it did for the Catholic Church.

Remarkable. The least respected of American institutions, Congress, with an approval rating of 13 percent, is imposing its cultural and moral values on the most respected of American institutions, the U.S. military.

Why are we undertaking this social experiment with the finest military on earth? Does justice demand it? Was there a national clamor for it? No. It is being imposed from above by people, few of whom have ever served or seen combat, but all of whom are aware of the power of the homosexual rights lobby. This is a political payoff, at the expense of our military, to a militant minority inside the Democratic Party that is demanding this as the price of that special interest’s financial and political support.

Among the soldiers most opposed to bringing open homosexuals into the ranks are combat veterans, who warn that this will create grave problems of unit cohesion and morale.

One Marine commandant after another asked Congress to consider the issue from a single standpoint: Will the admission of gay men into barracks at Pendleton and Parris Island enhance the fighting effectiveness of the Corps? Common sense suggests that the opposite is the almost certain result.

Can anyone believe that mixing small-town and rural 18-, 19- and 20-year-old Christian kids, aspiring Marines, in with men sexually attracted to them is not going to cause hellish problems?

The Marines have been sacrificed by the Democratic Party and Barack Obama to the homosexual lobby, with the collusion of no fewer than eight Republican senators.

This is a victory in the culture war for the new morality of the social revolution of the 1960s and a defeat for traditional Judeo-Christian values. For only in secularist ideology is it an article of faith that all sexual relations are morally equal and that to declare homosexual acts immoral is bigotry.

But while this new morality may be orthodoxy among our elites in the academy, media, culture and the arts, Middle America has never signed on and still regards homosexuality as an aberrant lifestyle, both socially and spiritually ruinous.

To these folks, homosexuality is associated with a high incidence of disease, HIV/AIDS, early death, cultural decadence and civilizational decline. And no sensitivity training at Camp Lejeune is going to change that.

Behind these traditionalist beliefs lie the primary sources of moral authority for traditionalist America: the Old and New Testaments, Christian doctrine, natural law. Thomas Jefferson believed homosexuality should be treated with the same severity as rape.

And 31 consecutive defeats for same-sex marriage in state referenda testifies that Middle America sees the new morality as the artificial invention of pseudo-intellectuals to put a high gloss on a low lifestyle.

Not until recent decades have many in America or the West argued that homosexuality is natural and normal. As late as 1973, the American Psychiatric Association listed homosexuality as a mental disorder.

Today, anyone who agrees with that original APA assessment is himself or herself said to be afflicted with a mental disorder: homophobia.

The world has turned upside down. What was criminal vice in the 1950s — homosexuality and abortion — is not only constitutionally protected, but a mark of social progress.

Yet, just as busing for racial balance led to violence, white flight and the ruin of urban schools, this social experiment is not going to be without consequences. And it is the military that will endure those consequences.

Yet, again, if we believe our armed forces to be the best in the world, why are we doing this, against the advice of countless senior officers and NCOs? What is the motivation other than the payoff of a campaign debt?

What happens now to Evangelical Christian and conservative Catholic chaplains who preach that homosexuality is a sinful and shameful practice? Will they be severed from the service as homophobes?

That cannot be far behind when the Family Research Council, a respected organization of religious and social conservatives that has fought the homosexual agenda from same-sex marriage to gay adoptions, has now been declared by the Southern Poverty Law Center to be a “hate group.”

The advance of what was once a radical agenda has accelerated.

In 2004, John Kerry may have lost Ohio and the presidency because same-sex marriage was on the ballot in almost a dozen states, bringing out committed social conservatives to the polls. Six years later, the gay rights agenda is imposed by Congress and Obama on the 82nd and 101st.

Let the reader decide if the direction America is headed in is toward those “sunny uplands,” or straight downhill.

High School Principal Takes a Bold Stand

Monday, November 1st, 2010

This is a statement that was read over the PA system at a football game at Roane County High School in Kingston, Tennessee  by school Principal, Jody McLeod … The speech was later read into the Congressional Record by Representative Zach Wamp of Tennessee.

Even that left wing leaning arm of socialism snopes.com confirms this one:  http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/mcloud.asp

“It has always been the custom at Roane County High School football games, to say a prayer and play the National Anthem, to honor God and Country.”

Due to a recent ruling by the Supreme Court, I am told that saying a Prayer is a violation of Federal Case Law. As I understand the law at this time, I can use this public facility to approve of sexual perversion and call it “an alternate life style,” and if someone is offended, that’s OK.

I can use it to condone sexual promiscuity, by dispensing condoms and calling it, “safe sex.” If someone is offended, that’s OK.

I can even use this public facility to present the merits of killing an unborn baby as a “viable! means of birth control.” If someone is offended, no problem…

I can designate a school day as “Earth Day” and involve students in activities to worship religiously and praise the goddess “Mother Earth” and call it “ecology..”

I can use literature, videos and presentations in the classroom that depicts people with strong, traditional Christian convictions as “simple minded” and “ignorant” and call it “enlightenment..”

However, if anyone uses this facility to honor GOD and to ask HIM to Bless this event with safety and good sportsmanship, then Federal Case Law is violated.

This appears to be inconsistent at best, and at worst, diabolical. Apparently, we are to be tolerant of everything and anyone, except GOD and HIS Commandments.

Nevertheless , as a school principal, I frequently ask staff and students to abide by rules with which they do not necessarily agree. For me to do otherwise would be inconsistent at best, and at worst, hypocritical. I suffer from that affliction enough unintentionally. I certainly do not need to add an intentional transgression.

For this reason, I shall “Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s,” and refrain from praying at this time.

” However, if you feel inspired to honor, praise and thank GOD and ask HIM, in the name of JESUS, to Bless this event, please feel free to do so.. As far as I know, that’s not against the law—-yet.”

One by one, the people in the stands bowed their heads, held hands with one another and began to pray.

They prayed in the stands. They prayed in the team huddles. They prayed at the concession stand and they prayed in the Announcer’s Box!

The only place they didn’t pray was in the Supreme Court of the United States of America- the Seat of “Justice” in the “one nation, under GOD.”

Somehow, Kingston , Tennessee Remembered what so many have forgotten. We are given the Freedom OF Religion, not the Freedom FROM Religion. Praise GOD that HIS remnant remains!

Obama and the Muslim “Contribution”

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

Barack OBAMA, during his Cairo speech, said: “I know, too, that Islam has always been a part of America ‘s story.”

AN AMERICAN CITIZEN’S RESPONSE:

Dear Mr. Obama:

Were those Muslims that were in America when the Pilgrims first landed? Funny, I thought they were Native American Indians.

Were those Muslims that celebrated the first Thanksgiving day? Sorry again, those were Pilgrims and Native American Indians.

Can you show me one Muslim signature on the United States Constitution?

Declaration of Independence ?

Bill of Rights?

Didn’t think so.

Did Muslims fight for this country’s freedom from England ? No.

Did Muslims fight during the Civil War to free the slaves in America ? No, they did not. In fact, Muslims to this day are still the largest traffickers in human slavery. Your own half brother, a devout Muslim, still advocates slavery himself, even though Muslims of Arabic descent refer to black Muslims as “pug nosed slaves.” Says a lot of what the Muslim world really thinks of your family’s “rich Islamic heritage,” doesn’t it Mr. Obama?

Where were Muslims during the Civil Rights era of this country? Not present.

There are no pictures or media accounts of Muslims walking side by side with Martin Luther King, Jr. or helping to advance the cause of Civil Rights.

Where were Muslims during this country’s Woman’s Suffrage era? Again, not present. In fact, devout Muslims demand that women are subservient to men in the Islamic culture. So much so, that often they are beaten for not wearing the ‘hajib’ or for talking to a man who is not a direct family member or their husband. Yep, the Muslims are all for women’s rights, aren’t they?

Where were Muslims during World War II? They were aligned with Adolf Hitler. The Muslim grand mufti himself met with Adolf Hitler, reviewed the troops and accepted support from the Nazi’s in killing Jews.

Finally, Mr. Obama, where were Muslims on Sept. 11th, 2001? If they weren’t flying planes into the World Trade Center , the Pentagon or a field in Pennsylvania killing nearly 3,000 people on our own soil, they were rejoicing in the Middle East … No one can dispute the pictures shown from all parts of the Muslim world celebrating on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC and other cable news networks that day. Strangely, the very “moderate” Muslims who’s asses you bent over backwards to kiss in Cairo , Egypt on June 4th were stone cold silent post 9-11. To many Americans, their silence has meant approval for the acts of that day.

Oh, and don’t forget the Barbary Pirates. They were Muslim.

And now we can add November 5, 2009 – the slaughter of American soldiers at Fort Hood by a Muslim major who is a doctor and a psychiatrist who was supposed to be counseling soldiers returning from battle in Iraq and Afghanistan .

And THAT, Mr. Obama, is the “rich heritage” that Muslims have contributed to America.

Should Christians Respect Obama?

Dr. David Barton – on Obama

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Respect the Office?  Yes. Respect the Man in the Office?  No, I am sorry to say. I have noted that many elected officials, both Democrats and Republicans, called upon America to unite behind Obama. Well, I want to make it clear to all who will listen that I AM NOT uniting behind Obama!

I will respect the Office which he holds, and I will acknowledge his abilities as an orator and wordsmith and pray for him, BUT that is it.
I have begun today to see what I can do to make sure that he is a one-term President!

Why am I doing this ?

It is because:

– I do not share Obama’s vision or value system for America ;
– I do not share his Abortion beliefs;
– I do not share his radical Marxist’s concept of re-distributing wealth;
– I do not share his stated views on raising taxes on those who make $150,000+ (the ceiling has been changed three times since August);
– I do not share his view that America is Arrogant;
– I do not share his view that America is not a Christian Nation;
– I do not share his view that the military should be reduced by 25%;
– I do not share his view of amnesty and giving more to illegals than our American Citizens who need help;
– I do not share his views on homosexuality and his definition of marriage;
– I do not share his views that Radical Islam is our friend and Israel is our enemy who should give up any land;
– I do not share his spiritual beliefs (at least the ones he has made public);
– I do not share his beliefs on how to re-work the healthcare system in America ;
– I do not share his Strategic views of the Middle East ; and
– I certainly do not share his plan to sit down with terrorist regimes such as Iran …

Bottom line: my America is vastly different from Obama’s, and I have a higher obligation to my Country and my GOD to do what is right!
For eight (8) years, the Liberals in our Society, led by numerous entertainers who would have no platform and no real credibility but for their celebrity status, have attacked President Bush, his family, and his spiritual beliefs !

They have not moved toward the center in their beliefs and their philosophies, and they never came together nor compromised their personal beliefs for the betterment of our Country!

They have portrayed my America as a land where everything is tolerated except being intolerant!

They have been a vocal and irreverent minority for years!

They have mocked and attacked the very core values so important to the founding and growth of our Country!

They have made every effort to remove the name of GOD or Jesus Christ from our Society!

They have challenged capital punishment, the right to bear firearms, and the most basic principles of our criminal code!

They have attacked one of the most fundamental of all Freedoms, the right of free speech!

Unite behind Obama?  Never ! ! !

I am sure many of you who read this think that I am going overboard, but I refuse to retreat one more inch in favor of those whom I believe are the embodiment of Evil!
PRESIDENT BUSH made many mistakes during his Presidency, and I am not sure how history will judge him.  However, I believe that he weighed his decisions in light of the long established Judeo-Christian principles of our Founding Fathers!!!

Majority rules in America , and I will honor the concept; however, I will fight with all of my power to be a voice in opposition to Obama and his “goals for America .”
I am going to be a thorn in the side of those who, if left unchecked, will destroy our Country ! !  Any more compromise is more defeat!

I pray that the results of this election will wake up many who have sat on the sidelines and allowed the Socialist-Marxist anti-GOD crowd to slowly change so much of what has been good in America !

“Error of Opinion may be tolerated where Reason is left free to combat it.” – Thomas Jefferson

GOD bless you and GOD bless our Country ! ! !

Thanks for your time, be safe.  “In GOD We Trust”

Can Muslims be good Americans?

Monday, January 11th, 2010

This may go far in answering questions as to why our American Muslims remain so silent and refuse to speak out against acts of terror …

So, the question: Can Muslims be good Americans?

Theologically – no. . . . Because his allegiance is to Allah, The moon God of Arabia.

Religiously – no.. . . Because no other religion is accepted by His Allah Except Islam (Quran, 2:256)

Scripturally – no. . . Because his allegiance is to the five Pillars of Islam and the Quran.

Geographically – no . Because his allegiance is to Mecca , to which he Turns in prayer five times a day.

Socially – no. . . Because his allegiance to Islam forbids him to make Friends with Christians or Jews.

Politically – no.. . . Because he must submit to the mullahs (spiritual Leaders), who teach annihilation of Israel and destruction of America , The great Satan.

Domestically – no. .. . Because he is instructed to marry four Women and Beat and scourge his wife when she disobeys him (Quran 4:34 )

Intellectually – no. . Because he cannot accept the American Constitution since it is based on Biblical principles and he believes the
Bible to be corrupt.

Philosophically – no. . . . Because Islam, Muhammad, and the Quran does Not allow freedom of religion and expression. Democracy and Islam cannot Co-exist. Every Muslim government is either dictatorial or autocratic.

Spiritually – no… . . Because when we declare one nation under God, the Christian’s God is loving and kind, while Allah is NEVER referred to as a heavenly father, nor is he ever called love in the Quran’s 99 Excellent names.

Therefore, after much study and deliberation…. Perhaps we should be Very suspicious of ALL MUSLIMS in this country. – – – They obviously cannot be both good Muslims and good Americans.  Call it what you wish, it’s still the truth. You had better believe it.. The more we understand this, the better prepared we will be to face our nation’s challenges.

The religious war is bigger than we know or understand …. The Muslims have said they will destroy us from within. We see it happening before our very eyes today!

Michael Moore – WWJD?

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

First of all, let me start off by saying that I’m not trying to preach here. So, please don’t take offense by my bold statements. I simply don’t speak PC. MY hope is to clarify and not to preach in this instance:

That said; I don’t know about you, but I’ve just about had it with the “WWJD” (What Would Jesus Do), distortions. Since the late 80’s when the WWJD bracelet first came out, I’ve been appalled by the attempt to commercialize and distort [what] Jesus came to accomplish, which by-the-way, was always to go to the “Cross”.

Why am I so worked up now?  Well, because, when I watch and hear a guy like Michael Moore, on Hannity last week, state that “capitalism has become evil” and basing it on WWJD, I lose it. Additionally declaring we are to take care of everyone under “cradle to grave” big-government programs, like socialized medicine.  This, while he proselytizes for the so-called P.C. guilt-ridden ways he operates under, with the WWJD distortions… Wrong!

Anyhow, nothing could be more perverted and further from the truth. It makes for strange bedfellows when Moore, with all his Castro/Chavez-loving assaults on humanitarian atrocities; attempts to promote some kind of so-called distorted Catholic-based & christian-based (small-c is purposeful), false claims for being our “brothers-keeper”? (So as not to get too wordy, I’ll refrain from getting into that at this point).

I find it almost intolerable, that the Left is trying to promote these distortions of WWJD. I’ve heard it from my Berkeley grad friends before! My position has been to never acknowledge this acronym! But, now it’s taking on epidemic pervasive distortions, when Michael Moore becomes a so-called Theologian! What a JOKE he’s making of himself and all who buy into these humanistic positions he holds.

So, WWJD? I respond by telling Mr. Moore what Jesus [did].  He went to the cross! Something he [Michael] cannot emulate, nor are we to try and distort. Doing good works is not a free pass to heaven as he is trying to make it! It [salvation] is a free gift of [W]hat [J]esus [D]id “WJD”!

Again, not preaching here, simply attempting to clarify — Moore would probably accuse me of proselytizing, if I told him any of this. Or, give me some babble about separation of church & state nonsense. I say, as a Christ-follower, Christian, that I’m charged with the “great commission” of Mathew 28 (which is not the great suggestion) to go out and preach the truth about the “Cross”, not about humanistic distortions and half-truths about salvation being less than a free gift, to those who free-willingly accept it! The “good-works” part are a by-product of trying to please my Father-God. Not, one of guilt being played out for self-praise and accomplishments, while trying to please mankind about the evils of capitalism and clearing over $50M & rising to date, for doing so!

The Founders wrote the Constitution on these very principals. In an effort to represent the individual and do-no-harm to the individuals’ rights. Not, “the greater good” or “social justice” or “the group”.  Collectivism is just that — a false “ism” by any other distortion of WWJD or otherwise!

Thanks for tolerating my rant!

Best,

John

Christian Teachers – It’s Time To Fly!

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Peter Heck – Guest Columnist – 7/20/2009 10:10:00 AM

Peter HeckIt was indeed a heartwarming moment.  With teachers, representatives, and affiliates to the National Education Association’s annual convention gathered around, the NEA’s retiring General Counsel Bob Chanin took to the stage to deliver his outgoing remarks.  His inspiring and uplifting message asserted the profound commitment held by the NEA to the betterment of American society: “We are not paranoid, someone really is after us.  Why are these conservative and right-wing b****rds picking on NEA and its affiliates?  I will tell you why: it is the price we pay for success.”

As one of those right-wing “fatherless lads” Mr. Chanin was referring to, I found myself moved at how open-minded and inclusive his speech sounded.  But more than that, Chanin did a masterful job of demonstrating what the true priorities of the NEA are when he stated that what makes the group effective is, “not because of our creative ideas, it is not because of the merit of our positions, it is not because we care about children, and it is not because we have a vision of a great public school for every child.  NEA and its affiliates are effective advocates because we have power.”

Now there’s a relief.  Perhaps the NEA should put that quote on its promotional fliers?  After all, who would want the largest association representing teachers in the country to be basing its effectiveness on its ability to improve the lives of children?!  Thankfully, the leadership of the NEA has sought a pursuit of raw political power instead.  And why are they so successful in this pursuit?  Mr. Chanin explains, “And we have power because there are more than 3.2 million people who are willing to pay us hundreds of millions of dollars in dues each year.”  Keep in mind that many of those 3.2 million are faithful Christian teachers who seem to turn Mr. Chanin’s stomach.

Not that any of this should come as a surprise.  In 1996, the NEA issued a handbook on dealing with the “radical right’s crusade against public schools.”  The handbook states: “They won’t go away.  No matter how bizarre we believe their beliefs to be, no matter how illogical and inconsistent their goals appear, and no matter how often we reassure ourselves that ‘this too, shall pass,’ the political, social, and religious forces that make up the radical right in contemporary American society will not go away.”  For teachers who hold to traditional moral values, we’re just to look the other way and continue sending our money.

Sadly, the pathetic reality of the current state of affairs in the National Education Association gets worse.  At this same convention in San Diego, the NEA voted to throw their full support behind homosexual “marriage” by committing to use its resources and political muscle to take down any legislation that hinders the homosexual movement.

Also, the NEA voted down a resolution that called for the group to take “no position” on the issue of abortion.  Currently, the NEA uses the dues money from members to advocate and support lobby groups battling for the “right to choose.”  Had this resolution passed, the NEA would have been unable to commit any dues money of members to causes that have anything to do with the abortion debate.  Instead, they would have had to use that money on something preposterous…like issues actually pertaining to education.

To me, this year marks the line in the sand.  There are many justifications and reasons an individual Christian teacher can give for joining a local association.  But because of the power of the NEA in Washington, we can’t deny the reality that our local associations are in many cases legally compelled to affiliate themselves under the NEA’s control.  Consequently our money – money we intend to be put towards actually improving the lives of children – goes to fund deliberately anti-Christian activities.

NEA logo pinkSure, there are excuses we can use to justify our capitulation and spineless allegiance to causes we know to be wrong.  We can accept the fear-mongering about how we’ll all lose our jobs without the NEA.  We can delude ourselves into believing that when we check the box stating that our dues can’t be used for political purposes that we aren’t still contributing to the very executive councils, legal offices, and management that is publicly acknowledging their hatred towards everything we stand for.  We can rationalize that it’s impossible anymore to keep from spending our money on things we don’t really support.

But we shouldn’t do it any longer.  Our consciences shouldn’t allow it.

We will undoubtedly be told that we are traitors to the cause, overreacting prudes, or freeloaders.  But we didn’t tell the NEA to throw full support behind the slaughter of children in the womb.  We didn’t tell the NEA to use their muscle to advocate homosexual marriage across the country.  We didn’t make the decision to abandon the NEA.  The NEA made the conscious decision to abandon us.  And if there’s any confusion on that fact, see Bob Chanin.

Has Obama Turned on Israel?

Settlements, rockets and Iran.

By ALAN M. DERSHOWITZ

 Many American supporters of Israel who voted for Barack Obama now suspect they may have been victims of a bait and switch. Jewish Americans voted overwhelmingly for Mr. Obama over John McCain in part because the Obama campaign went to great lengths to assure these voters that a President Obama would be supportive of Israel. This despite his friendships with rabidly anti-Israel characters like Rev. Jeremiah Wright and historian Rashid Khalidi.

At the suggestion of Mr. Obama’s Jewish supporters — including me — the candidate visited the beleaguered town of Sderot, which had borne the brunt of thousands of rocket attacks by Hamas. Standing in front of the rocket shells, Mr. Obama declared: “If somebody was sending rockets into my house where my two daughters sleep at night, I’m going to do everything in my power to stop that. And I would expect Israelis to do the same thing.” This heartfelt statement sealed the deal for many supporters of Israel.

Now, some of them apparently have voters’ remorse. According to Malcolm Hoenlein, executive vice chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, “President Obama’s strongest supporters among Jewish leaders are deeply troubled by his recent Middle East initiatives, and some are questioning what he really believes.” I hear the same thing from rank-and-file supporters of Israel who voted for Mr. Obama.

Are these fears justified? Rhetorically, the Obama team has definitely taken a harsher approach toward Israel compared to its tone during the campaign. But has there been a change in substance about Israel‘s security? In answering this question, it is essential to distinguish between several aspects of American policy.

 First there are the settlements. The Bush administration was against expansion of West Bank settlements, but it was willing to accept a “natural growth” exception that implicitly permitted Israel to expand existing settlements in order to accommodate family growth. The Obama administration has so far shut the door on this exception.

 I believe there is a logical compromise on settlement growth that has been proposed by Yousef Munayyer, a leader of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination League. “Obama should make it clear to the Israelis that settlers should feel free to grow their families as long as their settlements grow vertically, and not horizontally,” he wrote last month in the Boston Globe. In other words, build “up” rather than “out.” This seems fair to both sides, since it would preserve the status quo for future negotiations that could lead to a demilitarized Palestinian state and Arab recognition of Israel as a Jewish one — results sought by both the Obama administration and Israel.

A majority of American-Jewish supporters of Israel, as well as Israelis, do not favor settlement expansion. Thus the Obama position on settlement expansion, whether one agrees with it or not, is not at all inconsistent with support for Israel. It may be a different position from that of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but it is not a difference that should matter to most Jewish voters who support both Mr. Obama and Israel.

 The differences that would matter are those — if they exist — that directly impact Israel‘s security. And in terms of Israel‘s security, nothing presents a greater threat than Iran.

The Obama administration consistently says that Iran should not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons. But prior to the current unrest in the Islamic Republic, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel frightened many supporters of Israel in May by appearing to link American efforts to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons to Israeli actions with regard to the settlements.

 This is a disturbing linkage that should be disavowed by the Obama administration. Opposition to a nuclear Iran — which would endanger the entire world — should not be dependent in any way on the issue of settlement expansion.

 The current turmoil in Iran may strengthen the Obama administration as it seeks to use diplomacy, sanctions and other nonmilitary means to prevent the development of nuclear weapons. But if these tactics fail, the military option, undesirable and dangerous as it is, must not be taken off the table. If the Obama administration were to shift toward learning to live with a nuclear Iran and attempt to deny Israel the painful option of attacking its nuclear targets as a last resort, that would be troubling indeed. Thankfully, the Obama administration’s point man on this issue, Dennis Ross, shows no signs of weakening American opposition to a nuclear-armed Iran.

 A related threat to Israeli security comes from Iran‘s proxies, Hezbollah and Hamas. For years, these terrorist groups have disrupted life in Israel by firing rockets at civilians. The range of their weapons now extends to Israel‘s heartland, including Tel Aviv. The Israeli Defense Forces must retain the ability to prevent and deter rocket fire, even if it comes from behind human shields as it did in southern Lebanon and Gaza. There is no evidence of any weakening of American support for Israel‘s right to defend its children from the kind of rocket attacks candidate Obama commented on during his visit to Sderot.

 There may be coming changes in the Obama administration’s policies that do weaken the security of the Jewish state. Successful presidential candidates often soften their support for Israel once they are elected. So with Iran‘s burgeoning nuclear threat, it’s important to be vigilant for any signs of weakening support for Israel‘s security — and to criticize forcefully any such change. But getting tough on settlement expansion should not be confused with undercutting Israel‘s security.

Pharaoh vs Obama

Friday, June 19th, 2009

This is said to be a Sermon from a church in Virginia recently. Gen 47: 13-27 … Maybe it is, and maybe it’s not. The message is true enough either way:

Good morning, brothers and sisters; it’s always a delight to see the pews crowded on  Sunday morning, and so eager to get  into God’s Word..  Turn with me in your Bibles, if you will, to the 47th chapter of  Genesis; we’ll begin our reading at  verse 13, and go through verse 27.

Brother Ray, would you stand and read that great passage for us?… Thank you  for that fine reading, Brother Ray.. So  we see that  economic hard times fell upon Egypt ,  and the people turned to the government  of Pharaoh to deal with this for  them.  And Pharaoh nationalized the grain harvest, and placed the grain  in 20 great storehouses that he had  built. So  the people brought  their money to Pharaoh, like a  great tax increase, and  gave it  all to him willingly in return  for grain.  And this went  on  until their money ran out, and  they were hungry again.

So when they went to Pharaoh after  that, they brought their livestock – their  cattle, their horses, their sheep, and  their donkey – to barter for grain, and verse 17 says that only took them  through the end of that year.

But the famine wasn’t over, was  it?

So the next year, the  people came before Pharaoh and admitted  they had nothing left, except their land and  their own lives.  “There is  nothing left in the sight of my lord  but our bodies and our land.  Why  should we die before your eyes, both we  and our land?  Buy us and our land for  food, and we with our land will be  servants to Pharaoh.”  So  they surrendered their homes, their  land, and their real estate  to Pharaoh’s government, and then sold  themselves into slavery to him, in  return for grain.

What can we  learn from this, brothers and sisters?

That turning to the government instead  of to God to be our provider in hard  times only leads to slavery? Yes.  That  the only reason government wants to be  our provider is to also become our  master?  Yes.

But look  how that passage ends, brothers and sisters!  Thus Israel settled in the land of  Egypt , in the land of Goshen . And  they gained possessions in it, and were fruitful  and multiplied greatly.”  God  provided for His people, just as  He always has!  They didn’t  end  up giving all their  possessions to the government, no, it  says they gained possessions!

But I also tell you a great truth  today, and an ominous one. We see the  same thing happening today – the  government today wants to “share the  wealth” once again, to take it from us  and redistribute it back to us.  It wants to take control  of healthcare, just as it has taken  control of education, and ration it  back to us, and when government rations it,  then government decides who gets it,  and how much, and what kind.

And if we go along with it, and do it  willingly, then we will wind up  no differently than the people of Egypt did  four thousand years ago –  as  slaves t o the government, and as slaves  to our leaders.

What Mr.  Obama’s government is doing now is no  different from what Pharaoh’s  government did then, and it will  end the same… And a lot of people  like to call Mr. Obama a “Messiah,”  don’t they?  Is he a Messiah? A savior?  Didn’t the Egyptians say, after Pharaoh  made them his slaves, “You have saved  our lives; may it please my lord, we  will be servants to Pharaoh”?

Well, I tell you this – I  know  the Messiah; the Messiah is a friend of  mine; and Mr. Obama is no Messiah!  No,  brothers and sisters, if Mr. Obama is a  character from the Bible, then he is  Pharaoh.

Bow with me in  prayer, if you will.

Lord, You  alone are worthy to be served, and we rely  on You, and You alone.  We confess  that the government is not our  deliverer, and never rightly will be.  We read  in the eighth chapter of 1 Samuel, when  Samuel warned the people of what a  ruler would do, where it says “And  in that day you will cry out because of  your king, whom you have chosen for  yourselves, but the LORD will not  answer you in that day.”  And  Lord, we  acknowledge that day has  come.  We cry out to you because of the ruler  that we have chosen for ourselves as a  nation. Lord, we pray for this nation.  We pray for revival, and we pray for deliverance  from those who  would be our masters.

Give us  hearts to seek You and hands to serve You,  and protect Your people from the  atrocities of  Pharaoh’s government.
